Thanks to its geography, Laredo is a territory with many green areas and beautiful landscapes. A territory that may be explored by land, water or air; an experience you cannot miss. In Laredo, you may go along several trails or do water sports to enjoy the sea.
For hiking lovers, Laredo proposes five trails to discover its most hidden corners where you may enjoy its wildlife and vegetation. These trails have been compiled in the guide entitled 'Rutas con Encanto' [Enchanting Roads], available at the Tourist Information Office.


Distance: 2 kilometres- roundtrip
Duration: 1 hour
Start: It starts at the end of calle Menéndez Pelayo, leading the hiker towards La Atalaya where they will find the Fuerte del Rastrillar [Rastrillar Fort] (buildings erected in the 18th and 19th century) and the viewpoints of la Caracola and La Rosa de los Vientos from which you may see the urban center of Laredo and its immense beach.


Distance: 5 kilometres
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Start: Its starting point is located next to the Puerta de la Virgen Blanca [White Virgin Door] in Puebla Vieja, on a narrow street leading hikers across El Secar until they get to Valverde and Las Cárcobas, where they will see the chapel built for Virgen Bien Aparecida, the patron saint of Cantabria.


Distance:: 10 kilometres -roundtrip
Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes
Start:: Running from Puerta de Bilbao, the trail heads towards Las Cárcobas, converging into Valdeverde Road. Then, after taking a traditional path to neighbouring estates you will get to Retorín cliff and Sierra de la Vida, where you may enjoy an impressive view of the Liendo Valley. There, you may also find a trail towards San Julián Beach.


Distance: 8.5 kilometres- roundtrip
Duration: 3 hours
Start: The trail starts from Plaza de Carlos V towards Las Casillas neighborhood, La Pesquera and Villante. Here you may find the signal indicating the way up to Pico del Hacha.


Distance: 5 kilometres - roundtrip
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Start: It runs from Avenida de los Derechos Humanos, at the intersection with the motorway leading to the two campsites in the area. Along this trail the hiker goes into the marshes of the Ason estuary.

VISIT THE NEW PORT OF LAREDO

For sea lovers, there is a privileged site for doing water sports in Laredo, such as: sailing, surfing, windsurfing, jet skiing, scuba-diving and boat trips. In fact, local and international competitions have been held in its waters by the Club Náutico de Laredo [Laredo’s Boating Club].
