The Last Disembarking of Charles V was first recreated in 1999 and, since then, it has been reproduced on a Friday in the second fortnight of September.
That year the Municipality of Laredo organized several events, some of which have been repeated in the following years and others have actually been extended. It represents the arrival of the Emperor in Spain, at the port of Laredo, to start his last journey towards the Yuste Monastery where he would retire (Cuacos de Yuste, Cáceres).
This journey is also recreated in the “Charles V Journey” celebration, across the following towns: Laredo, Colindres, Limpias, Ampuero, Rasines, Ramales, Soba, Lanestosa and Medina de Pomar (Burgos,) visited by Charles V on his way to Yuste. This walk is organized by the Government of Cantabria with the help of its municipalities.
